Peter Leithart says:
“For Jesus “feast” was not just a “metaphor” for the kingdom. As Jesus announced the feast of the kingdom, He also brought it into reality through His own feasting. Unlike may theologians, He did not come preaching an ideology, promoting ideas, or teaching moral maxims. He came teaching about the feast of the kingdom, and He came feasting in the kingdom. Jesus did not go around merely talking about eating and drinking; he went around eating and drinking. A lot.7”

Mike Hooper, Jr. Grace San Antonio Letter of Resignation

Pastor Mike Hooper, District Board, and To Whom it may Concern:

August 15, 2013

It is with a somber, yet expectant heart, that I write to you and offer this letter of resignation as the pastor of Grace Community Church San Antonio.

It has been our great pleasure to lead and shepherd this congregation over the past five years. We have seen God move on our behalf and raise up a people who have grown and responded to the preaching of the Gospel over that time. Truth be told, I feel that God has used this people, and the circumstances we have faced together, to lead and shepherd Antoinette and me. We were (and still are) very young and God has been faithful and the people have been patient. We are grateful. We are also thankful for the trust that was invested in us to lead this church at such a young and unproven age.

Over the last two and a half years God has been slowly moving our hearts in a new direction for min- istry. We felt that perhaps this new direction was simply forward vision for the congregation at Grace San Antonio, but it has become clear to us that this is not the case. Antoinette and I feel that this heart shift has everything to do with us personally following the leading of the Lord in a new direction, and we believe He has given us peace to step down as the pastors of Grace San Antonio and trust Him to lead us into the future He has prepared for us.

Grace San Antonio will celebrate it’s sixth anniversary on September 22nd. We would like for that to be our last Sunday in the pastorate, and feel that this timeline provides adequate time to take care of any necessary preparations for our departure and the appointment of a new pastor.

This is very much an act of surrender for us, and we ask that you would continue to keep us in your prayers as we follow the leading of the Lord for our lives and for our family.

Sincerely yours,

Mike Hooper, Jr. - Lead Pastor - Grace San Antonio

Sin, the Law, self-effort, and Grace - Sin is not canceled by lawful living, for no person is able to live up to the Law. The Law reveals guilt, fills the conscience with terror, and drives men to despair. Much less is sin taken away by man-invented endeavors. The fact is, the more a person seeks credit for himself by his own efforts, the deeper he goes into debt. Nothing can take away sin except the grace of God.
Martin Luther’s Commentary on Galatians
Grace and Peace - Grace remits sin, and peace quiets the conscience. Sin and conscience torment us, but Christ has overcome these fiends now and forever.
Martin Luther’s Commentary on Galatians
The article of justification must be sounded in our ears incessantly because the frailty of our flesh will not permit us to take hold of it perfectly and to believe it with all our heart.
Martin Luther’s Commentary on Galatians

I am a historian, not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all of history.
H. G. Wells - British Author

Because He Lives

God sent His son, they called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal, and forgive.
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.

Because He Lives by Bill & Gloria Gaither
God does everything through people who understand they’re nothing. And God does nothing through those who think they’re everything.
